At Google?s annual I/O developer conference Thursday, the company announced the first big wave of third-party Glass apps, dubbed Glassware.

Those who own the stylishly questionable headgear will soon be able to get breaking news updates from CNN, access notes and reminders from Evernote, read social media posts from Facebook, Tumblr, and Twitter, and get fashion tips from Elle, according to The New York Times.

Glass also gets its first game, an appropriately awkward title called Ice Breaker. In it, you receive a notification when another Ice Breaker player is nearby so you can introduce yourselves, take pictures of one another, and then rate your conversation. Like we said: awkward.

With this next wave of Glassware, as the apps are collectively called, users will also be able to compose tweets via voice, send photos to Facebook, and read their favorite sections of Elle magazine (can?t wait for the sidewalk crashes caused by this type of functionality).

Path and The New York Times are currently the only third-party apps available for Glass wearers. Other built-in functions include directions, search, snapping photos or videos, and relaying messages from your phone.

The press conference was first tweeted by CNBC, and confirmed by other publications.

Obviously, some people think that Mayer will announce that Yahoo is buying Tumblr for as much as $1.1 billion. Word has been circling that the deal that may get approved as soon as Sunday night, according to AllThingsD.

The billion-dollar price tag, if it proves true, seems shocking given that Tumblr has reportedly only generated $13 million in revenue in 2012, after taking $125 million in investor funding.

But, as Business Insider’s Jim Edward’s points out, Tumblr has become a cool tool among young people. They use it as a blogging platform, a custom-news feed and a social network and it would be easy to monetize with advertising in the right hands.

Then again, Bloomberg says that this hastily scheduled event will bring us news about updates to Yahoo’s photo sharing service Flickr.

Stay tuned.

It may seem highly suspicious, but an eagle-eyed Twitter member spotted what could be the new version of the Nexus 7 in the official Google+ Hangouts promo video. What’s gives it away? The current Nexus 7 doesn’t have a flashing LED notification light.

At roughly 21 seconds, the video shows two people communicating with each other across devices. One has an iPhone, while the other a mystery tablet.

It does seem quite a stretch to believe that Google would accidentally out one of its prize assets in such a flippant manner, and pictured alongside an iPhone, no less, but it’s not impossible.

Cesi D’Alessio (@Cesi_D) isn’t even sure himself, asking for verification. At the time of writing, he has had no replies.

Perhaps though, Google planned to unveil the new device during Google I/O but it slipped. Or perhaps, as it isn’t yet ready to unleash Android 4.3 on the world, it didn’t want to wave around hardware that runs on the new version of the operating system. And maybe the film was made before either of those decisions.

It’s certainly intriguing, nonetheless.

Nokia Xpress Browser already offers one of the most efficient ways to browse the Internet on a mobile phone, but things are about to get a lot more exciting thanks to the introduction of Nokia Xpress Now.

Nokia Xpress Now provides a new, smarter way of discovering content on the Internet, with a web app promising to inform and entertain Nokia Asha owners. We?ve been talking to Andy Kelm, Vice President ? Nokia Xpress Services, to find out more.

Nokia Xpress Now delivers a real-time, personalised look at what?s hot on the Internet,? explains Andy. ?By combining the aggregated view of more than 80 million monthly users of Nokia Xpress Browser together with your browsing preferences, Nokia Xpress Now helps you discover hot stories and web sites you didn?t know existed.?

?Nokia Xpress Now is about discovering interesting stories and new content based on the wisdom of the crowd,? adds Andy, ?It?s not a magazine, a story or a group of curated RSS feeds, but rather a collection of interesting web content that is always changing.?

The web app is split into three separate views: What?s Hot, You May Also Like and Most Liked (coming soon). The first option is an aggregated view of what millions of other browsers are doing in your area, says Andy, while You May Also Like provides websites depending on what you?re interested in. Most Liked is a view of recent stories that have been explicitly ?Liked? by users of Xpress Now. ?There?s a button at the top which tells you what you?re looking at, press the button and it?ll change the view,? adds Andy.

?There?s a bit of serendipity and discovery here, not just a ranked list of one to 10,? says Andy. ?Our intention is to help you to find interesting things, to inform you and to entertain you.?

Above: The current Nokia Xpress browser.

The making of Nokia Xpress Now

Nokia Xpress Now was born out of a realisation that many mobile phone consumers in emerging markets have very narrow browsing patterns. Andy explains: ?Soon after we launched the Nokia Xpress Browser, we learned just how popular the Web is among consumers, but we also learned how homogenous their browsing patterns are within a country. Many of them are not coming from a world of desktop browsing, and they only know a few popular web sites. We realised that by using a sophisticated recommendations engine, we could change that.?

?Nokia has some experience in this area with our Music recommendation service, so we reached out to the team who had worked on that system and found them ready for a new challenge. We were able to bring trending content together with an adaptation of the recommendation algorithm to realise our vision.?

?The result is a very sophisticated, large-scale, real-time analytics and recommendation engine that delivers a unique experience with the goal of helping people get the most out of the web. And we?re just getting started.

Nokia Xpress Now is currently in beta in India, and it?s proving incredibly popular. Andy concludes: ?It?s one of our top apps, and it has a huge impact on repeat usage of the service. Our users find the real-time nature compelling and sticky.?

Availability of Nokia Xpress Now will expand to other Nokia Asha devices and countries throughout 2013.

If you’ve been jealously eyeing the US launch of the Klipsch KMC3 Bluetooth speaker then there’s good news. This Klipsch Music Center is coming to the UK in June and will cost you £349.

That might sound pretty pricy when the Loewe Speaker 2Go is only £269 and the Philips Fideleo P9 is only £239. But the Klipsch is slightly different. It’s much larger for starters.

Measuring 18.3 x 43.2 x 14cm and weighing 3.5kg, the Klipsch KMC3 is less of a portable solution than those smaller and lighter systems. Although it offers wireless operation, with Bluetooth for connection to your smartphone, it doesn’t have an internal rechargeable battery.

Instead you’ll be asked to use eight D cells, which will give you 8 hours of music at full volume. You could buy rechargeables for this task, but given the size, we see the KMC3 as more of a domestic portable system, rather than something you might carry to the beach.

Internally you have 2x 15W full range drivers and 1x 35W subwoofer promising audiophile quality and from the sample tracks we heard played at Digital Summer 2013, it sounds very good indeed.

Aside from Bluetooth you can connect via 3.5mm and there’s a USB port for charging your mobile device.

Perhaps the unique feature of the Klipsch KMC3 is the rubberised bay in the top. As demonstrated by a Klipsch agent, you can slap your smartphone onto this grippy bag and it won’t slip off.

The U.S. Department of Defense has approved the use of iOS 6 devices, which may help Apple to build some strength in a market still dominated by BlackBerry devices. The US D.O.D. currently has about 470,000 BlackBerrys in use across its networks, with 41,000 Apple mobile devices and 8,700 Android devices.

The Department of Defense is building a multivendor environment, it said in a press release, with BlackBerry and Samsung Knox devices also receiving similar approval.

The D.O.D. has cracked the door open to Apple and Android users, but it’s not a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) environment: The organization doesn’t support personal phones to connect to the network.

This was revealed by Google who claims that their Chrome browser currently has about 750 million active users on a global scale, making it the most popular browser in the world. Of course this is largely thanks to the fact that Chrome is not only available on computers, but on mobile devices as well, and also because Google has a Chrome OS. We?re not sure how Google calculated these statistics, but 750 million active users is certainly no joke, but there is a possibility of duplicates since someone using Chrome on their desktop, smartphone and tablet could be counted as 3 separate users, unless of course they bother logging in. Either way what?s your favorite browser, and do you agree that Chrome is the most popular browser at the moment?

Are you a foodie? If so, how old were you when that happened? At what age did you actually say ?Ooh, that looks nice? or ?I think I?ll try something different for dinner???

We?re guessing it probably wasn?t when you were a child, because, for the most part, children simply don?t do that. There are rare exceptions, but getting a healthy meal into a young child can be one of the most challenging parts of any parent?s day. It?s understandable when they end up just shoving any old thing in front of their offspring simply to fill them up.

If that sounds in any way familiar, then help is at hand. The help comes in the shape of Jamie Oliver, and whether you love or hate his programmes or his cooking, you can?t argue that he has managed to change the way people think about food.

And that?s precisely what foodrevolutionday.com is about too. It?s a global event, taking place today, that aims to get people to gather together and celebrate, share and enjoy good food and the basic cooking skills that go into making it.

It?s got loads of celebrity backing and is getting bigger each year, so why not get involved too?
